My Sauna Story

Saunas and I, we go way back. Growing up in Finland, saunas were as much a part of life as morning coffee. My relationship to sauna started at an early age in my parents, my grandparents and summer cottage saunas. Sauna was such a natural part of my life that I took it for granted and never gave it a more profound thought. It was first when I started the new “saunaless” chapter in my life abroad that I started longing these simple family gatherings and social traditions of the Finnish sauna.

I found back to sauna in the pursuit for balance and presence while yearning for a more profound sense of holistic well-being. Being disconnected from my true essence living in the hectic, stressful, and disconnected state, I found the warm embrace of the “löyly” very healing. Sauna was a safe and accepting space where I succeeded to tame my restless, scattered mind, reduce mental agitation and find a moment to pause and reflect.

The physical and mental calmness and well-being from sauna led me to search for more information about the benefits of sauna in restoring balance and harmony for my body, mind and spirit. And guess what? This search guided me to the traditional Finnish sauna healer education. I feel humbled to pass down the ancient wisdom, practices and sauna healing traditions to my children and new generations while bridging the gap between the old and the new.
